I think of my paintings as un-interpreted dreams that metaphorically reflect the undercurrents of my thoughts and feelings. I work from found photographic images, miniature models and my own constructions, combining observation with my imagination.
My process is to discover and develop the images that feel meaningful to me: images that intrigue me that I want to get to know better. Notable fascinations: the elemental facial expressions of Butoh performers, expressive face of actress Helene Weigel performing Bertold Brecht’s “Mother Courage”, and the sounds of words in languages that I do not speak.
I attempt to follow the dictates of my vision, no matter where it leads. |
