I think of my paintings as un-interpreted dreams that metaphorically reflect the undercurrents of my thoughts and feelings. I work from found photographic images, miniature models and my own constructions, combining observation with my imagination.
My process is to discover and develop the images that feel meaningful to me: images that intrigue me that I want to get to know better. Notable fascinations: the elemental facial expressions of Butoh performers, August Sander’s photograph of “Blind Children”, expressive face of actress Helene Weigel performing Bertold Brecht’s “Mother Courage”, and the sounds of words in languages that I do not speak.
I attempt to follow the dictates of my vision, no matter where it leads.
